McDonald’s renews partnership with Cognizant to enhance operations

GLOBAL – The largest QSR chain in the world, McDonald’s has announced a multi-year extension of its partnership with Cognizant to enhance staff enablement, customer experience, and operational efficiency.

Cognizant will continue to assist McDonald’s in key enterprise areas, including global finance systems and human capital management, focusing on payroll processing, franchisee management, master data management, and legal applications.

McDonald’s aims to leverage Cognizant’s expertise in product development, digital engineering, and quality assurance, alongside innovations in cloud computing, enterprise AI, and generative AI, supported by industry-specific knowledge in food services.

The collaboration utilizes tools such as Cognizant’s Skygrade and Neuro IT, which aid in transitioning to cloud-native systems and automating IT operations.

JT Scott, McDonald’s Vice President of Global Technology Enterprise Products and Platforms, remarked that Cognizant had been instrumental in helping streamline their enterprise applications across key markets and advancing their journey to the cloud.

He further acknowledged the company’s deep expertise in global finance and human systems, which allowed McDonald’s to focus on its core mission of delivering great food and exceptional customer service.

Looking ahead, Scott expressed excitement for future advancements as McDonald’s continues to innovate with new technologies.

This partnership follows McDonald’s “Digitizing the Arches” initiative, announced at an investor day in late 2023, aimed at modernizing the brand and driving future growth.

The partnership was expanded from an initial collaboration in early 2017 with the Riyadh International Catering Corporation, McDonald’s strategic partner in Saudi Arabia, which operates 200 restaurants in the region.

Anup Prasad, Cognizant’s Senior Vice President and Head of the Consumer Business Unit, expressed enthusiasm about the expanded partnership, emphasizing that their collaboration had facilitated the transition from legacy systems to a modern, cloud-based enterprise, delivering significant value.

This move is part of McDonald’s broader strategy to enhance customer value, which was further supported by the recent launch of the McValue menu.

The menu offers more flexibility and a variety of options, such as the Buy-One-Add-One-For-US$1 Deal and the US$5 Meal Deal, along with digital promotions through the McDonald’s app.

Franchisees are complementing these offers with community-specific deals, such as app-exclusive discounts. Franchise owners have also shared their preferred pairings for the new menu, showcasing regional preferences.
