INDIA- Online food and delivery company Swiggy has appointed former Flipkart Senior Vice President (SVP) Amitesh Jha as CEO of its Instamart business wing.
The appointment was made via an internal email by Swiggy’s cofounder and group CEO, Sriharsha Majety.
IInstamart’s new CEO replaces Swiggy’s other cofounder, Phani Kishan Addepalli, who will now be expected to lead the firm’s central growth team that oversees initiatives like theSWiggy One subscription service.
Addepalli is also expect to take on the role of the group CEO’s chief of staff, according to Majety’s internal email. He took on the role of Intsmart’s head in March 2023, after Karthik Gurumurthy stepped down from the role.
Jha worked for Flipkart for14 prior to this appointment. He initially joined as a category head in 2010 and quickly rose through the ranks and worked for a variety of teams, including the company’s logistics and value-products focused units.
According to the internal email, Jha is suited for the role because of his impressive experience leading core ecommerce categories like general merchandise and logistics.
Majety also praised his contribution to making Flipkart a mainstream player in India’s ecommerce market. The group CEO expressed optimism over the appointment, reiterating Instamart’s new CEO will help facilitate Instamart’s growth and expansion in the Indian market.
The Group CEO said, “With Swiggy Instamart, we have a unique opportunity to redefine the way consumers shop in India, and I am excited about the prospects that lie ahead with Amitesh at the helm.”
Jha’s appointment was announced amid Swiggy’s fast-approaching initial public offering (IPO), reflecting the online platform’s success in recent years.
According to senior executives, the online food delivery platform aims to for a US$15 billion valuation for its initial IPO, which should aid in raising US$1.2 billion. If it goes through, it would be one of the biggest IPO’s in Indian history.
This IPO has induced a corporate restructuring at Swiggy as the delivery platform aims to enhance operational efficiency and bring in industry-proven talent.
In August, Swiggy appointed Sairam Krishnamurthy as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Senior Vice President of Instamart. He was previously Amazon’s chief operating officer (COO).
